Question 1 of 4
How many people work in the business?
The short version
Or just read it
This works when:
- You employ roughly 15 to 100 people
- The same work happens repeatedly — enquiries, quotes, reports, onboarding
- Someone can decide and spend without a committee
- You have three hours to give it
This does not work when:
- You are under ten people. There is usually no repeatable process yet and no budget for what follows.
- You want someone to pick tools. Ask a chat window; it is free and it is good at that.
- Nobody internally will own the change. I can find the saving. I cannot make your team adopt it.
- You are a Yorkshire manufacturer eligible for Made Smarter, which runs a free digital readiness assessment with match funding behind it. Start there. Come back if it does not cover your office functions.
Work I turn down
Not on price. On principle.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| CV screening and candidate shortlisting | Equality Act exposure. Automated shortlisting is a live discrimination-claim risk and professional indemnity cover is unlikely to touch it. |
| Cold outreach sequences | PECR and GDPR exposure, it damages your domain reputation and it does not work. |
| Customer-facing autonomous chatbots | It can commit your company or misquote your prices in public. Not until there is a track record behind it. |
| Estimating, takeoff and pricing automation | An error causes direct financial loss on a real job, with my method attached to it. |
| Scheduling and dispatch optimisation | Bespoke to every business, high blast radius and it does not transfer. |
If someone is selling you the first two, ask them about the Equality Act and PECR and watch what happens.
